Raziah Geneid as a Business Leader in Malaysia
Raziah Geneid (née Raziah Mahmud) was born in 1955 in the city Miri in the State of Sarawak in Malaysia. She is an accomplished entrepreneur and businesswoman who devotes much time and energy towards promoting Malaysia around the world and developing economic ties with other countries. Her business experience includes property management and development, construction and tourism. Among other positions, she currently serves as Chairman of the Kumpulan Construction Sdn. Bhd. and is the Managing Director of Kumpulan Parabena Sdn. Bhd.
Management in the Construction Industry
As Managing Director, Raziah Geneid - Mahmud handles development of housing projects at Kumpulan Parabena Sdn. She helps develop sound business strategies as well as locating projects and overseeing funding for the property development company. This includes oversight of the Taman Jelita and Taman Tunku townships, which will make 6,500 housing units available to 30,000 people. Other developments include Bintulu, which will include 1,000 housing units and two educational institutions.
As Chairman of Kumpulan Construction Sdn. Bhd., Datuk Raziah Geneid works with the Board to ensure that all of the company’s operations are in accordance with the highest standards set by the government. She has been with the company since 1983 and uses her position to provide support services to the CEO as well as promoting effective communication between the directors. Two of the projects she has been involved with include the Kampung Senari Kuching Deepwater Port and the Sarawak Outdoor Stadium.
Since 1989, Raziah Mahmud Geneid has worked with the Majupun Sdn. Bhd., which runs the Marriott Resort and Spa in Miri. After rebranding the hotel from its previous name, she took over management of the property. She is also the Executive Director at Borsarmulu Resort Sdn. Bhd., which runs the Royal Mulu Resort. The company handles tourism to the park and helps promote Mulu as an eco-tourism destination. She also helped secure a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list for the Gunung Mulu National Park.
Professional Appointments and Positions
Recently Raziah Geneid was chosen for the position of Chairman at the SJK Chiaw Nan Management committee. She was the first person to ever hold the Sarawak post who was not Chinese. Since 2000, she has held the title of Honorary Consul to the Republic of Poland, which is in Kuching. In this capacity, she is responsible for serving the Polish residents of Malaysia as well as the passengers of ships carrying the Polish national flag that dock in the province’s territorial waters. In recognition of her excellent service in this area, she was appointed to “The Knights Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.” She also has a seat on the Board at Eksons Corporation Bhd., which she has held since 2001. Since 2002, she has been a member of the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs and won the title Innovative Women Entrepreneur of the Year in Property and Construction of Malaysia in 2004.
Raziah Geneid Mahmud studied business at the Institute of Technology Mara and she became a licensed business secretary following her studies at Pejabat Pendaftar Syarikat Malaysia. She is the mother of seven children and lives with her husband in Kuching, Malaysia.
